We are all fortunate to live in such an innovative day and age. It used to be that dentures were the only option for people who had lost one or more of their teeth, or a person simply walked around with teeth missing. Individuals suffered from low self-esteem, an inability to eat many foods, discomfort, and it could even impact speech patterns.

People still lose their teeth these days, but now dental implants are a viable and accessible option for anyone who needs to fill that gap.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants function almost exactly like real teeth. While the only available solution used to be dentures or bridges, nowadays dental implants actually serve as a replacement root for the tooth - or teeth - you lost. Dental implants work much like your natural teeth do by binding to your jawline and allowing you to keep your natural smile, speak naturally, and eat your favorite foods without fear or pain. We also order them customized to perfectly match your natural teeth, so that no one even has to know that tooth went missing.

Because the implant functions as a replacement root for your tooth, they allow you to completely avoid the discomfort and moving around that can happen with dentures. They are typically made of titanium and require no special maintenance beyond your usual oral care habits of brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups.

Our expert prosthodontist is Dr. Arman Torbati. He is a diplomat with the American Board of Prosthodontists, a Harvard and USC graduate, and an associate professor at USC - so you know he is a professional. What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants in Los Angeles and Century City?

Dentures used to be the standard of care for people who were missing teeth for any reason, and they were never pleasant for anyone. For decades they had to be removed and kept clean. Dentures could slip around or slide out of place and it is much harder to eat certain foods. Many people with dentures are stuck eating soft foods. Dentures could interfere with speech if they slipped out of place and contributed to lower self-esteem among individuals who were missing teeth. But not anymore!

Dental implants in Los Angeles or Century City are the new gold standard for nearly any missing teeth, whether it is one or many teeth. As discussed, they are typically made of titanium and actually replace the root of your tooth that used to hold it in place so that there is no slipping or sliding around. With time, the implant actually fuses naturally to the bone. That means your replacement teeth are as secure as if they were your own and pretty quickly you will forget that they are not your originals.

In partnership with customized crowns (the prosthetic tooth replacements), dental implants mean you can have your old life back. Your smile will return to normal and you can eat all of your favorite foods without having to worry. Many people who have missing teeth for any number of reasons report lower self esteem and dental implants can help you feel like your old self. No one should have to walk around with missing teeth in this day and age.

There are other advantages as well and many of them may not be immediately obvious. Eating regular foods is easier and pain-free with dental implants than with dentures. And who wants to be in pain when they eat? Because dental implants anchor into your bone where the root used to be, you also do not have to worry about them slipping and causing any slurred speech or other embarrassing moments. You will just generally feel more comfortable with dental implants because they are permanent and sturdy replacements for your teeth - unlike dentures.

A dental implant is a fixed and easy solution for almost any missing tooth situation. Most people report more discomfort from having a tooth extracted than from having a dental implant inserted. To be the ideal candidate, you will need to be in good oral health and committed to continuing good oral health practices such as regular brushing and check-ups. You will also need to be located in or willing to visit the Los Angeles or Century City areas. Others, such as a patient with an unmanaged disease or someone who is a smoker will need to be examined on a case by case basis. So, give us a call today to set up your consultation with Dr. Torbati!

How Do I Get Dental Implants in Los Angeles or Century City?

The very first step is to give us a call for your initial consultation so we can make sure that you are a good candidate for dental implants and develop a customized treatment plan for you. Our experienced team led by Dr. Torbati will make sure that your care is coordinated to meet your needs. If the tooth still needs to be extracted, that will be the next step and we will make sure to schedule an appointment for that.

If the tooth is already gone and Dr. Torbati determines that you are a good candidate, we will make an appointment for the dental implant to be inserted. At that appointment the titanium dental implant will be placed into the socket of your jaw bone by our expert prosthodontist where the tooth root used to be. An additional post is then attached to the new root to hold it safely in place. The jaw bone then needs to heal, which takes anywhere from six weeks to about three months. As the bone begins to heal, it closes slowly around the dental implant and anchors it in place. This all sounds painful but the anesthesia will make sure you do not feel the procedure as it happens, and most people report only mild discomfort afterwards.

Our care team will also take a dental impression of your mouth in order to create the crown that will ultimately be attached to the dental implant. The crown needs to match your other teeth, fit securely in its place, and keep your bite straight - and the dental mold will help us make sure you get the perfect crown to go with your dental implant.

The same procedure is followed whether you need a single implant or several implants. The crowns are created the same way as well, via a dental mold. Los Angeles is such a visual city and you want your smile to stand out. Our team will make sure to match them to your other teeth's color as well so that even though you will essentially have a brand new tooth, it won't look like it to anyone else. It will be your secret.

Since the implant is inserted into the jaw bone and ultimately fuses to it, the implant is as secure as your other teeth and functions as if it were your original tooth. As long as you take good care of it and the rest of your teeth, there is also no reason your dental implant can't last your whole life. It will just be a short matter of time before you forget you even have a dental implant. Get your life back today and give us a call!

Are Dental Implants Painful?

Typically, local anesthesia is used when inserting dental implants. There can be mild discomfort for a short period after the procedure while the jaw bone heals back up, but most people report little to no discomfort. The dental implant is typically much less painful than having the tooth itself extracted, for example.

If there is minor discomfort after the procedure, some ice or over the counter medications will frequently be sufficient to treat that discomfort. Because the jaw bone has to heal around the implant, it can be several weeks before it is considered "healed" but any discomfort is typically over quite quickly.

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

A missing tooth requires a good deal of attention. You do not want to let it go unattended for long, and it will certainly affect your daily life even more so if the missing tooth is in the front. Dental implants are often the right solution for many people who have a missing tooth, and Dr. Arman Torbati will be able to assess whether they are right for you or not. Come see us today and find out!

Do You Take My Insurance?

We accept many different types of insurance and we can check with your insurance company about whether they will cover dental implants. It typically depends on the cause of the root extraction and the type of coverage you have. But we are willing to work with you even if your insurance does not cover it completely. Give us a call today to find out, and schedule your consultation at the same time!
